Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 30, 2026.
This Privacy Policy explains how Schema Markup Checker (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use this website (the “Site”), the Schema Markup Checker Chrome extension (the “Extension”), and the JSON API (the “API”), together the “Services”.
Our principles
- Privacy information should be clear and easy to find.
- We collect only what is needed to run the Services. There are no accounts, no payments and no advertising.
- Analytics cookies on the Site are set only after you accept them in the cookie banner.
- Checks made with the Extension run inside your browser and are not sent to our servers.
Information we collect
Information you provide
If you contact us, we receive the email address and the message you send. We use them only to answer you.
When you check a page on the Site or through the API, you provide the address of a public web page. We fetch that page, validate its structured data and show you the report. The address and the report are kept in the server's memory for up to five minutes so that repeated checks and shared report links are fast, and are then discarded. They are not written to a database.
Website usage information
Our hosting provider and our own server logs may record technical details of requests to the Site and the API, such as IP address, browser and device type, requested page, referring page, approximate location and timestamp. We use the IP address to limit the number of checks per minute from one address and to protect the Services from abuse. If you accept analytics cookies, our analytics providers also process usage information as described under Online analytics below.
Chrome extension
The Extension validates the page you are on and, when you ask it to, other pages of the same website. All of this happens inside your browser. The pages you check, the structured data found on them and the resulting reports are not sent to us or to anyone else.
- Page check. The Extension reads the content of the tab only after you click its icon (the
activeTabandscriptingpermissions). It does not read other tabs and does not run in the background. - Whole-site scan. When you start a scan, the Extension asks Chrome for permission to access that one website. It then requests the site's pages directly from your browser, without cookies, at a few requests per second. The site you scan sees these requests like any visitor's.
- Storage. Scan reports are stored in the Extension's local storage on your device (the
storagepermission) so you can reopen or continue them. The last ten scans per site are kept; you can delete them from the report page or by removing the Extension. Your theme preference is stored the same way. - No tracking. The Extension contains no analytics, no advertising and no remote configuration. It does not connect to our servers.
Use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
API
The API returns the same report as the Site for a page address you submit. Requests are rate-limited by IP address and cached for five minutes as described above. No key or account is required, and we do not associate API requests with any person.
How we use information
We use information only as needed to:
- fetch and validate the pages you ask us to check and show you the report;
- respond to questions and feedback;
- measure Site traffic and improve the Site, where you have accepted analytics;
- protect the Services from abuse, overload and security threats; and
- comply with legal obligations.
When we disclose information
We may disclose information to:
- hosting, security, analytics and email providers that process information on our behalf;
- government authorities or other parties when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety and security; and
- a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition or transfer of the Services, subject to applicable law.
We do not sell personal information and do not share it with advertisers.
Legal basis for processing
Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on our legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving the Services and in responding to users, on your consent for analytics where consent is required, and on compliance with legal obligations.
Online analytics
The Site may use analytics services such as Google Analytics (provided by Google LLC, United States) to collect and analyze aggregate traffic and usage information: pages visited, referring page, browser and device data, approximate location, IP address and visit timestamps. Analytics is used on the Site only and is not included in the Extension.
The Google tag is present on every page of the Site and runs in Google's consent mode. Until you select Accept in the cookie banner it sets no cookies, reads no identifiers and sends Google only cookieless, aggregated signals (such as that a page was viewed) that are not linked to you; after you select Accept it sets analytics cookies and works as described above. You can decline, change your choice later through the Cookie settings link in the footer or by clearing the Site's cookies and storage in your browser, or install the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Where we add another analytics provider, we will list it here and it will be covered by the same consent.
Cookies and local storage
The Site uses cookies and browser storage for three purposes: to remember the language you chose (the sv-lang cookie, strictly necessary, one year), to remember whether you accepted or declined analytics (the sv-consent cookie, one year), and, once accepted, for the analytics services described above. No cookies are needed to check a page. You can clear a previous choice and stored data using your browser settings; blocking storage may prevent your choice from being remembered, in which case the banner is shown again.
The Extension uses the browser's extension storage on your device for scan reports and preferences, as described above. You can clear this data through Chrome's extension settings or by removing the Extension.
Your choices and data subject rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your personal information, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Because the Services keep no accounts and discard checked pages within minutes, there is usually nothing for us to retrieve; to make a request or ask a question, email hello@schema-checker.com. You may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
International transfers
Our hosting and analytics providers may process information outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Where required, appropriate safeguards are used for such transfers.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse or alteration. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Data retention
Checked pages and reports are held in server memory for up to five minutes. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. Analytics data is retained according to the settings of the analytics provider. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to handle your request.
Third-party links and services
The Site and the Extension link to services we do not operate, such as Google's documentation. Their collection and use of information is governed by their own privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy when the Services or legal requirements change. We will post the updated Policy on this page and revise the effective date above.

If you have questions about this Policy or want to exercise a privacy right, email hello@schema-checker.com.
